Frequently asked questions

What is free, and what is Premium?

Recording expenses is free, always — unlimited entries, unlimited categories, and no cap on how long you keep using it. Premium adds budgets, insights, iCloud sync across your devices, full search, recurring expenses, widgets and data export.

Where is my data stored?

On your device. Tuppence has no account, no sign-in and no server of ours: your entries never reach us and we cannot read them.

How does sync work?

Through your own private iCloud database. Your entries appear on your other Apple devices signed in to the same iCloud account. It travels between your device and Apple — we have no access to it. If no iCloud account is set up, everything simply stays on the device.

I bought Premium but the app does not unlock it

Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases. If it still does not appear, make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used for the purchase.

Can I import my expenses from another app?

Yes. Export a CSV or JSON file from the other app, then in Tuppence go to Settings → Import data. Tuppence shows you a preview of the table and lets you say which column holds the amount, the date, the description and the category — so a file with any column order works. Categories that do not exist yet are created for you, and you choose their emoji.

Will importing delete what I already have?

Only if you ask it to. When you import, Tuppence asks whether to add the entries to your archive or replace everything. Adding is the default, and re-importing the same file twice does not create duplicates.

How do I get my data out?

Settings → Export data writes your whole archive — entries, categories, budgets and templates — into a single JSON file you can save anywhere.

What is the app lock?

An optional lock that covers your entries until you authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. The check is done by iOS: the app only learns whether it succeeded, and never sees your biometric data.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Erase all data removes entries, categories and budgets. It cannot be undone, so export first. Deleting the app removes the local copy; if sync is on, remove the Tuppence data from iCloud in Settings → Apple Account → iCloud on your device.

Does Tuppence connect to my bank?

No. Tuppence never asks for banking credentials and does not import transactions from any financial institution. You record what you spend.
